ACEA hosting a series of Emancipation Events in Region Two

THE African Cultural and Educational Association (ACEA) have planned a series of activities to celebrate Emancipation in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam). Speaking with Guyana Chronicle, Mr. Chinelle Bowen, said that the Association kick started the series of events on July 19, with an African Quiz at Suddie which was won by Henrietta Village. She said the real celebrations will begin tomorrow with a Candle light parade starting from 20:00 hours from Damon’s Cross, La Belle Alliance to Damon Square , Anna Regina.
She said following the parade there will be a cultural programme which will include dances, poetry, drumming, skits, songs and the Libation by Ms. Eugene Gilbert.
She said that on August 1 (Emancipation Day) the Anna Regina Centre Ground will be the venue for a Metagee competition from 14:30 hours.
She also informed that various booths will be at the ground depicturing the various African wears, drums, food, accessories along with games for the children and a HIV Booth.
A cultural presentation will then follow at 16:30 hrs by the Classique Dance Company out of Georgetown.
She further said that the entrance fee for persons desirous of attending the activities on the ground will be $ 500.00 for adults, while children under 10 years will be admitted free.
Ms. Bowen also informed the Guyana Chronicle that on Damon’s day which is August 11, ACEA will be holding its Athletics Championships beginning with a road race from Queenstown to Anna Regina which will commence at 06:00 hours.
Bowen then informed that from 10:00 hrs the Championships will commence at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground where Athletes from the various African Groups along the Essequibo Coast will be competing in Track and Field Events from Medals and Trophies.
She said that this event will bring the curtains down for the Emancipation Celebrations from the Region.
