Karatekas leave for ISKF Master Camp

LAST Friday morning, a five-member team of shotokan karatekas took off for the 44th Annual International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) 2010 Master Camp and International Goodwill Tournament which is being held in Philadelphia, USA, June 11-18, 2010.
This is a unique shotokan training camp, as it brings together the highest-ranking qualified shotokan instructors along with participants from over 30 countries for a full week.
Every year, karatekas from around the world participate in the camp’s traditional standards and quality techniques, where they gain experience from other cultures, to which they may not have had the opportunity to be exposed, were it not for the ISKF Master Camp.
Master Funakoshi, the founder, truly believed that shotokan karate was for the world to appreciate, hence it was his goal to share this martial art with everyone who could possibly be reached.
Master Camp goes even further than that, as it brings all these cultures to one location to live and train together and get to know one another for one week and hopefully they gain a better understanding of each other to bring this new knowledge back to their perspective countries.
Master Camp is open to all shotokan practitioners, regardless of their affiliation. It is an unforgettable experience for all to get such superb instruction and world knowledge that it is truly a life-changing event.
This year, in addition to Master Yutaka Yaguchi, 9th Dan ISKF, participants will also have impeccable instruction from Masters Hirokazu Kanazawa 10th Dan – SKIF Japan, Masaru Miura 9th Dan – SKI-I Italy and Guyana’s very own Sensei Frank Woon-A-Tai 8th Dan.
Samuel Ming, Roger Peroune and Patrick Cheeks will be participating in the upcoming 11th ISKF Pan American Championships which is being hosted by Guyana during August 12-15, 2010.
Sensei Amir Khouri will be a judge at the event and officials will be using the camp’s training to sharpen and perfect their skills.
