Khan quits as a WICB employee

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – West Indies A team manager Omar Khan has quit as a West Indies Cricket Board employee, the Trinidadian Guardian has reported. The newspaper said Khan, who is currently in Grenada with the West Indies A side, had forwarded his resignation letter to WICB president Julian Hunte earlier this week.
Khan is said to be upset with the treatment meted out to him by the WICB, after being replaced as senior team manager for the Test and One-Day Internationals tour of Australia last year, and Zimbabwe’s tour of the Caribbean.
WICB director Joel Garner oversaw those tours and is expected to continue as manager for the World Twenty20 Championship and the ensuing series against South Africa.
A former Trinidad and Tobago national team manager, Khan took up his first West Indies role when he oversaw the side’s 1-1 draw in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka.
He continued as manager up until the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa last year when West Indies fielded a depleted side because of the contracts impasse.
In January, he was appointed manager of the West Indies Under-19 team at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand before being attached to the A team.
