One Guyanese dead, three others injured in Nickerie accident

A VEHICULAR accident in the border town of Nieuw Nickerie in neighbouring Suriname yesterday has reportedly left one Guyanese dead and three others seriously injured.

Reports reaching the Guyana Chronicle late yesterday are that the accident occurred around 15:00h, ostensibly Guyana time, while the four were on their way to the capital, Paramaribo.

The vehicle in which they were travelling, a white CRV, was being driven by one Patrice Andries. The other unnamed occupants of the vehicle were Andries’ girlfriend; her mother, who it was that died; and a male family-friend, who broke his back as a result of the accident.

Andries reportedly lost control of the machine and ran into a tree.

Nickerie is a district of Suriname, on the north-west coast. The district borders the Atlantic Ocean to the north, the Surinamese district of Coronie to the east, the Surinamese district of Sipaliwini to the south and Guyana to the west. (Michelle Gonsalves)
