Jadunauth, Haslim hit tons for GCC

GCB 3-Day first division …
… GDF lectures UG

RICARDO  Jadunauth and the pugnacious Wasim Haslim both struck centuries for Georgetown Cricket Club who snatched innings lead from the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) in their Demerara zone sixth round match of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-sponsored nationwide three-day first division competition yesterday. Playing at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Queenstown, GCC reached 373-3 at the close, thanks to Jadunauth’s 111 and Haslim’s 110 which went along with Vishal Singh’s unbeaten 65 and discarded national middle-order batsman Leon John’s 53.

At the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Camp Ayanganna ground, the home team lectured first division debutants the University of Guyana (UG), recording an outright win by nine wickets inside two days.

Across at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) ground, Police Sports Club arrested their opponents Nandy Park to take first innings points in their match-up, despite D. Hutson and J. Martin snaring nine of the lawmen’s wickets.

At DCC, GNIC, who resumed on their over-week score of 173-8, were bowled out for 213 with Jermaine Grovesnor 41 (5×4; 1×6), and Rayon Griffith and Marvin Fitzalbert with 40 each being the principal scorers.

Winston Nelson (3-96), Gavin Singh (2-21), Raj Nanan (2-29) and Kevin Ogle with 2-42 did the damage with the ball for GCC, who got a solid 143-run first-wicket partnership between Haslim whose innings lasted 69 deliveries and was decorated with 16 fours and five sixes, and Jadunauth.

After Haslim departed in the 22nd over of GCC’s innings, Johnson joined Jadunauth and they added a further 81 for the second wicket, before Johnson was caught at the wicket by Dexter Solomon off Delroy Charles after facing 72 deliveries and hitting five fours and three sixes in his 53.

Jadunauth soldiered on for GCC and raised his ton from 209 balls with seven fours and one six, before he skied a short delivery from Walter Henry to Griffith at mid on, facing a total of 236 balls and hitting eight fours and one six in his 111.

At the close of play, Singh who struck four fours in his unbeaten 65 was joined by former national Under-19 opener Jeetendra Sookdeo who has so far struck two fours in his unbeaten nine and together they have placed GCC, who have a lead of 160 runs, in a comfortable position to force an outright victory today.

At MSC, discarded national selectee Trevor Benn reminded the selectors of his ability with the bat, when he struck four fours and two sixes in his top score of 66, as PSC were bowled out for 233, with Jermaine Jones 33 (2×4), Jason Heyliger 26 and Cecil Adams and Vishal Jaigobin with 23 each offering support to Benn.

Hutson who took 5-52 and Martin with 4-65, did the damage with the ball for Nandy Park who found the bowling of Pernell London (4-39), Jaigobin (4-48) and Benn 2-10, too much to handle and folded for 134, with Mark Anthony and Martin leading the batting with 34 and 25 respectively.

At Camp Ayanganna, UG who were bowled out for 51 on the first day last Sunday, returned to restrict their hosts to 127 and even though they fared better in their second innings to be bowled out for 121, the victory target they gave to their more illustrious opponents was only 46 and the home team reached 51-1 to complete the victory by nine wickets and a day to spare. No individual scores were available.
