Sentence further postponed on mother who killed 2 children

JUSTICE James Bovell-Drakes was yesterday expected to impose sentence  on manslaughter accused Joanna Danhai after receiving a probation report on the murder accused who pleaded guilty to the lesser count. But after hearing a probation report, the judge further postponed sentence and directed that the 36- year- old be put in the care o f Government Psychiatrist Dr. Bhairo  Barry until February 22, when she will be brought back for sentence.
Following a domestic problem with her estranged reputed husband, the woman purchased and administered poison to her two children Jamal and Keisha Danhai, now dead.
The Probation Officer, Miss Marva Boyce, said that investigations revealed that the accused , Joanna Danhai is the product of a  dysfunctional home . Her childhood and adolescence  was  inundated with  catastrophic incidents.   The accumulative effect of this  predisposed  her to experience a decline  in her moral, social and emotional state,  which was manifested as she was a victim of psychological abuse. Consequently, the events  that led to the demise of the accused children, which  bore the  hallmark of a tragedy and traumatic  event, can be  characterised as a culmination of the psyche of the accused which seemed to have fallen into an abyss; thus it can be surmised that  regardless of the descending state of her faculty , she may have  allowed her  emotions to cloud her better judgement of the situation.
Therefore, as a result of her impaired  judgment, she made a catastrophic and ill-fated decision that resulted of the demise of her two children.
