Irmao Ailton Guest House gets injunction against GPL

– seeking $5M damages
A High Court judge has granted an injunction restraining the Guyana Power and Light Company from disconnecting electricity supply to the Irmao Ailton Guest House, owned by Ailton Alves Da Silva.

The result of the interim injunction was the hearing of an ex parte application brought by the plaintiff against GPL which had allegedly disconnected electricity from the guest house at 42 Robb Street, Bourda, Georgetown, for non-payment of the sums of $943, 356 and $57, 432.00 as appeared as a miscellaneous charge (debit) on the February 2008 bill issued to the plaintiff. This is pursuant to two letters from the defendant to the plaintiff dated the 7th day of March, 2008, until the hearing and determination of the plaintiff’s complaint against the defendant.

The Court granted the injunction after reading the plaintiff’s affidavit in support and hearing arguments from Attorney-at-Law Neil Boston of the firm of Boston & Boston.

The plaintiff is also seeking damages in excess of $5, 000, 000.00 from G.P.L.
Further hearing was adjourned to February 3, 2010, before a Bail Court judge.
