Minister Sukhai to attend inauguration of Bolivia’s President

MINISTER of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai will be representing Guyana at the upcoming inauguration of the recently re-elected President of Bolivia, Evo Morales.

President Morales who won the presidential election held on December 6, 2009 was re-elected for a second term having garnered 63 percent of the votes against his nine opponents.

Winning a victory for both the candidate and his allies, President Morales’ party Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) took control of both the Senate and Lower House of Plurinational legislative Assembly holding 24 of the 36 senate seats.

President Morales was born in the Highlands of Orinoca, Oruro, Bolivia and is of indigenous Aymara descent. He was sworn in as Bolivia’s first indigenous president on January 22, 2006 pledging to end 500 years of injustice against his people.
