Collymore claims ownership of disputed property

Mr. Stanley Collymore of 198 Camp Street in Georgetown, at a press conference at his restaurant yesterday, the Ambience Restaurant, located at the same address, informed the media that the Regent and Alexander Streets property in dispute, which was bought in 1993 by the Guyana Realty Investments Ltd from one Mrs. Bissoon, is in fact his inheritance from his father, the late Mr. Stanley Collymore, and that he subsequently sold it to Mr. Claude Deygoo, who obtained transport.

According to Mr. Collymore, his stepmother, Ms Carol Blackmore, had produced a will which he contends was forged, and he was consequently appointed administrator of the disputed properties by the court. She then sold the part of the estate at 117 Regent and Alexander Streets to one Mrs. Bissoon, who in turn sold it to the Guyana Realty Investments Ltd in 1993 before probate was passed.

Collymore stated that he moved to the courts and was subsequently appointed administrator, after which he sold the properties to Mr. Claude Deygoo.

The Guyana Realty Investments Ltd is currently challenging the ownership of the disputed property by either Anthony Collymore or Claude Deygoo.

The disputed property, at which was located Boyo’s Fashion and two other businesses, came into the public spotlight after a demolition exercise was carried out on the premises last Wednesday by agents purportedly dispatched by Claude Deygoo and Collymore, acting upon orders by the City Council.

An injunction obtained by Guyana Realty Investments Ltd halted the demolition exercise and the tenants subsequently resumed occupancy of the premises from which they were ejected.

Collymore is contending that he is in possession of the property and is querying the right of anyone to challenge his ownership of same, which had been granted through legal channels.
