GCA/BUSTA T20 Police arrest DCC, MSC stop TSC

… Burnett takes hat-trick as Stoll walks off field
HOST teams Police Sports Club (PSC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) successfully defended their home turf when they recorded victories over Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Transport Sports Club (TSC) respectively when action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/BUSTA Twenty20 second division competition continued yesterday.

On a sour note in the PSC/DCC encounter, national Under-19 fast bowler and senior team selectee Andre Stoll refused to bowl the ball from the bottom end when asked to do so by his captain and to add insult to injury, he left the field of play and sought the comfort of the stands, leaving the lawmen to fight their battle with 10 men.

At the MSC Thomas Lands ground, the home team won the toss and invited their neighbours to the East to take first strike and thanks to Edwin Burnett’s hat-trick, bowled them out for 113 from 18.4 overs, despite Rawle Enmore’s 40.

Enmore struck three fours and two sixes and along with Shawn Massiah 13 (1×4), Shafeik Hussain 11 (1×4) fought gallantly to resist Burnett who began his hat-trick with Hussain’s wicket when the batsman picked out Shaquille McWilliams on the deep mid-wicket boundary, followed by the wickets of Clyde Hoyte (7) who was bowled and Imtiaz Pooran (0) lbw to finish with 4-13.

McWilliams offered support with 2-20 and when MSC began their reply, openers Troy Lewis 46 (4×4, 3×6) and Abiose Barker 27 (5×4) posted 68 for the first wicket and with McWilliams returning to hit two fours in his unbeaten 17, the victors who remained unbeaten, reached 115-4 from 15 overs against the bowling of Ishmael and Pooran who took two wickets each for 7 and 9 runs respectively.

At the PSC ground Eve Leary, DCC won the toss and opting to take first strike posted an imposing 185-9 with Troy Nurse 49 (5×4, 3×6), former Demerara Under-19 skipper Denver Greaves 41 (5×4, 1×6) and Dennis Squires and Devon Gonsalves 33 each, with the former hitting four sixes and one four.

PSC’s skipper Fitzroy Culley led from the front despite losing the services of Stoll, who was included in the national squad which will be encamped from tomorrow, by taking 3-36 while Orin Heyliger and Vishal Jaigobin took two wickets for 21 and 34 respectively.

In PSC’s hunt for victory, Culley struck five fours and three sixes in his 64 and received support from Rawle Browne’s pugnacious 42 which included four fours and three sixes, including 20 runs from one of Jermaine Horatio’s overs which read 6, 6, 4, 4 all from short-pitched deliveries.

Jaigobin returned to contribute 23 (1×4, 1×6) with the bat as PSC reached 187-8 from 18.5 overs, despite Horatio returning to take 3-38 and Leron Primo 2-29.
