Schoolchildren transportation issue debated at RDC meeting

CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam). Mr. Alli Baksh said, that children from Kaiaboury Creek, along Pomeroon River, are always encouraged to attend school.

He made the statement in response to People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Councillor, Ms. Debbie Mc Lennon, during a debate at the recent Regional Democratic Council (RDC) meeting.

McLennon had said that 50 children are not attending school in the area because of a transportation problem but Baksh said many families in that community have boats and engines and can easily transport their children.

He said he visits the area very often and would always encourage children to pursue their education.

According to Baksh, the Government recently spent millions of dollars on the construction of a new school building at Dredge Creek, so that children, including those from Kaiaboury Creek, can have access to education.

McLennon, who is the Headmistress of Dredge Creek Primary School, said she did a recent survey in the area and found that 50 children are not attending classes.

She called on the RDC to provide a boat and engine to transport children to school.
