Queen opens CHOGM at NAPA today

The $480M National Academy for the Performing Arts on Chancery Lane, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, where Head of the Commonwealth Queen Elizabeth II, who arrived in Trinidad yesterday accompanied by the Duke, will officially declare the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2009 open today.

Some 52 Heads of Governments would attend CHOGM’S official opening today. National Academy of the Performing Arts, Port-of-Spain.

The stage is the first in the world specifically designed to accommodate large steelpan orchestras.

The design concept of the building is in the image of Trinidad & Tobago’s national flower, the Chaconia.

The building was constructed by the Shanghai Construction Group of China but the services of many local contractors were used. ( TrineView photo )
