CABINET, at its Statutory meeting earlier this week, offered its no-objection to the award of seven contracts, for a total of $278.07M, to rehabilitate roads and transport infrastructure under the Hinterland (Interior) Roads Programme 2009.
Making the announcement, at his weekly post-Cabinet news briefing yesterday, Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon said the works will be undertaken in Regions One (Barima/Waini), Eight (Potaro/Siparuni), Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) and Ten (Upper Demerara/Berbice).
He said Cabinet also approved contracts worth $36.6M and $41.4M, respectively, for the rehabilitation of culverts and roads in the Mackenzie/Wismar section of Linden and drainage works in Mackenzie commercial centre.
Luncheon said upgrading of the access road leading into the Amerindian community of Mainstay, Essequibo Coast, in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) will be executed through a $43.5M contract while the rehabilitation of community roads in Lots A to J, on East Coast Demerara and East Bank Demerara, in Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica) will be done with a $478.3M contract.
