Local actor Joel Fraser murdered

LOCAL stage actor Joel Fraser nicknamed ‘Sweets’, 40, who starred in the Maria Benschop production ‘Nothing to Laugh About’, has been murdered.

His dead body, with throat slashed, was discovered in a pool of blood around 05:45 hrs yesterday morning on the seawall at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

Acting for more than ten years, he also sold ground provisions and vegetables at Bourda Market.

Fraser’s bloodied corpse, with his brief pulled down, was found in a lying position.

Many who knew him said they last saw him alive at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) for a Tuesday night rehearsal about 22:00 h. Fraser was scheduled to perform in a show at the National Cultural Centre last night.

Most of his colleagues in theatre were shocked at the death of the resident of Laing Avenue, in Georgetown.

The police, in a brief statement on the incident last night, said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding Fraser’s death.
The body is at the Lyken Funeral Parlour and the investigations are ongoing
