Businessman murder
Wife, employee in police custody

Murdered: Ramzan Alli

Following the brutal murder of fuel dealer Ramzan Alli, whose body was discovered in his rented car trunk on Sunday morning at Coldingen Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara, the man’s wife and an employee were in police custody up to press time yesterday, assisting with investigations.

The body of businessman Ramzan Alli, 45, of 29 Kissoon’s Housing Scheme, Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, was found at about 08:30h on Sunday with a plastic bag held in place by duct tape tied over his head.

Alli had left home about 21:20h Saturday night after receiving a phone call. After he did not return home, relatives and employees conducted a search Sunday morning and found the vehicle on the Embankment.

The police were informed and the body was subsequently found in the trunk of the vehicle.

The police are awaiting the results of a post mortem.

Alli’s cellular phone was found on his person.

Relatives were yesterday reluctant to discuss the man’s death and quickly dismissed the Guyana Chronicle.

Tragedy had also struck the family last year, when Ramzan Alli’s younger brother, Akbar Alli, 35, a scrap metal dealer of Enmore, died on July 24 when he was shot during a robbery on Brickdam by two men on a motorcycle. The men took $2.1M from him.

He had just transacted business with his wife and had the bag with the money when the bandits struck. The bag was snatched and Alli went after the robbers who shot him.
