Three charged, some booty recovered from $1.8M burglary

POLICE have charged three men and recovered some of the booty from a $1.8M burglary committed at L&D Internet and Game Shop earlier this week.

The trio, Murtland Paul, 22, of Lot 63 Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust; Clive Bullen, 21, of Lot 2318 Soufriere Street and Randell Singh, 21, of Lot 116 Essequibo Street, Lamaha Springs, also in North Ruinveldt, all in Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday and pleaded not guilty to break and enter and larceny.

It is alleged that, between June 29 and 30, they broke into the business place and stole five television sets, six computers, one monitor, five ‘Nintendo’ games, a DVD player, a laptop computer, seven web cams, a printer, four cordless phones, a battery charger and a cell phone, all valued $1,889,000.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, said four television sets, the printer, three of the computers, the monitor, three of the ‘Nintendo’ games, the battery charger and two of the web cams were retrieved and lodged at Alberttown Police Station.

The Prosecutor, while not objecting to bail, mentioned that Paul and Bullen had several previous brushes with the law and asked that the things found at Paul’s home be returned to the virtual complainant.

But the magistrate said the things must remain in Police custody for a while to facilitate the trial.

Attorneys-at-law Mr. Patrice Henry appeared for Paul, Mr. Adrian Thompson for Bullen and Mr. Gordon Gilhuys for Singh.

Henry claimed Paul had cooperated fully with the Police since his arrest Tuesday.

Gilhuys submitted that Singh has had a stable job, as an auto electrician, at Guyana National Industrial Company (GNIC) for the past five years.

The lawyer said Singh was given a television screen to check at his workplace but, during the process, he received a telephone call informing him that two policemen were going to pay him a visit.

Gilhuys said Singh was put on $20,000 station bail but he and the others were each ordered to lodge $200,000 surety until August 5.
