Local Government Ministry applauded for efforts to clean up Georgetown

THE Ministry of Local Government must be applauded for its ongoing effort to keep the city of Georgetown clean with the monthly $10M dollars allocated to the City Hall for the year 2009, through the subvention of the Government of Guyana.

Since this project started five months ago, the city has seen development in areas of drainage where the gutters are cleaned regularly so that there will be no stagnant water; garbage disposal, the City Council is disposing of garbage thrown about the city properly while the pavements and avenues including Camp Street and Main Street are being kept litter free; and grass around the city is being trimmed frequently.

From the time when this $10M dollar was allocated to City Hall, not only did the city of Georgetown benefit in its clean up campaign but jobs were also created for many persons.

Mr. Editor, I must highlight that since this campaign started, the city of Georgetown has not seen much flooding during this recent rainfall season; proof of the good work being done.
