Larceny defendant granted bail over Police objection

JUNIOR McFerrin, 35, of Lot 53 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was put on $20,000 bail yesterday after he pleaded not guilty to larceny from the person.

Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, the defendant was alleged to have stolen a silver band valued $48,000 from Andrew Madray on June 25.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, objected to pre-trial liberty for him, on the ground that Madray is no stranger to the Court, as he had been previously charged with similar offences on several occasions.

But the magistrate overruled the objection and will call the case, again, today.
