Alpha continue winning ways with 4-1 win over Pele

ALPHA United continued their winning ways in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA)/Cellink Plus Premier League by beating Pele 4-1 when the two teams met in the feature match of a double-header card on Sunday evening at the Tucville ground. In the opening encounter, Fruta Conquerors edged BK International Western Tigers 1-0. In the feature match, Travis Grant opened the scoring in the 8th minute from the penalty spot to give Pele a slim 1-0 lead but 24 minutes later, Alpha United, the league’s points leader, drew level compliments of a defence error on Pele’s part. With no other goals materialising in the remainder of the first session, both teams came out for the second half looking to go ahead and it was not until the 69th minute of regulation time that Alpha United, who have been unbeaten to date in the competition, were able to surge ahead as Dwight Peters nailed home a goal to give his team a 2-0 lead.

Two minutes later, Edison Gomes made it 3-1 for the defending champions. He then followed up to register a double in the 90th minute of play. In the opening encounter, a Devon Forde 20th minute goal was all Fruta Conquerors needed to seal a victory. After six matches, Alpha United have progressed to 18 points. They have so far registered 28 goals and conceded three. Pele, on the other hand, played five matches to date and have won only one and that was against GFC. They drew one and lost the other three. They are on four points with four goals to their name. To date they have conceded eight goals. Fruta Conquerors played six matches to date and have won three. They lost two and drew the other. So far they have scored eight goals and conceded seven. Western Tigers have played six matches also. They won one, drew one and lost the others. They have three goals to their credit but have conceded 10.
