Bad weather forces postponement of Sunburst Camptown final

INCLEMENT weather over the past few days has caused the officials of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) to postpone the final of the Sunburst Camptown Fund-raising four-team tournament which should have been played on Sunday evening.

In an invited comment to Chronicle Sport yesterday, GFA president Troy Mendonca said the final and third place playoff had to be aborted because of the current weather conditions.

He explained that the Camptown facility does not have overhead covering for patrons and because the rain was threatening on Sunday the GFA made a decision to postpone the final and third place playoff.

He further added that the GFA’s executive will meet during the week and make a decision on a new date for the final and third place playoff.

Sunburst Camptown and Fruta Conquerors are to meet in the final for the $80 000 prize along with the Marlon Hendricks Memorial Trophy.

The second-, third- and fourth-place teams will receive $40 000, $20 000 and $10 000 respectively.

Camptown and Conquerors secured their places in the final with victories over BK International Western Tigers and GDF respectively at the same venue on Friday.
