I am a farmer for the past 25 years residing in West Watooka, Linden and I was pleased to meet with the vibrant Minister of Agriculture as part of the Grow More Food Campaign outreach to Region Ten.

The cash crop farmers and residents have benefited from seeds, technical advice and other planting materials which have been timely for the people of Linden. The surrounding agricultural communities of Linden is speedily growing and satisfying the needs of Region 10. There is a vast reduction in the importation of vegetables and other agricultural products as Linden continues to strive to be self sufficient in food production.

At the meeting, the Agriculture Minister and other senior officers made commitments to work with farmers and the people of Linden to boost agricultural activities and create employment and renew the interest of agriculture in Linden.

It was pleasing to learn of the new initiatives that the Agriculture Ministry is currently engaged in and the farmers of Linden intend take advantage of the many opportunities available. In addition, the Ministry’s NDIA renewed its commitment to support the expansion of agricultural activities by keeping drains clear to ensure adequate drainage and irrigation as required.

Further, additional agricultural staff has been posted in Region 10 to work along with farmers to identify areas for improvement in the crops and small ruminant sectors. The availability of trained technical officers will greatly assist the people of Linden and the wider Region 10.

We, the farmers are grateful for this intervention. I therefore end with a quote “Life owes man nothing, but an opportunity to earn a living.” That is all the people of Region 10 are seeking and as we move forward we remain grateful to the Ministry of Agriculture of its support.
