PPP condemns killing of GPL security head

THE ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has condemned the killing of the head of security of the Guyana and Power light (GPL) company stressing that none should be afraid of doing their job.

In a statement issued yesterday the party said: ”The PPP condemns the killing of GPL’s security head Mr. Clifford Peters.”

“Mr. Peters was murdered in the line of duty. No one should have to be afraid of doing their job. No society can tolerate this.”

“The PPP calls on the police to leave no stone unturned to find Peter’s killer(s).

The PPP is also concerned at the high level of use of firearms in crimes today. This suggests that too many illegal weapons are around in the country and in the hands of criminals.”

“The Party is of the view that measures must be taken to get the weapons off the streets as quickly as possible. It is an important method of curbing crimes in our country.

The PPP extends deepest sympathy to the wife, children, other family and friends of Clifford Peters. We also extend sympathy to the management and staff of GPL, particularly the close colleagues of Mr. Peters.”
