A MIXED jury was sworn at the Berbice Assizes yesterday for the rape trial of Ravidat Jagnit called Ravi, which begins on Monday, April 27.

The accused is indicted, before Justice Diana Insanally, for having carnal knowledge of a female without her consent on December 6, 2003.

The judge granted the adjournment to Defence Counsel Charrandass Persaud, who said he needed time to properly defend Jagnit, having only recently taken possession of the depositions.

State Prosecutor Ganesh Hira said the case is expected to take six working days.
