Comrade JJ a tragic loss to the party and Guyanese people

COMRADE JANET JAGAN, who was fondly referred to as JJ in the PPP/C, is a tragic loss to the party, the Guyanese people and more so the working class to whom the greater part of her life was dedicated.

Gracing the shores of Guyana, JJ along with her husband, Cheddi, masterminded the people’s movement for workers and human rights. Along with other prominent comrades, JJ was one of the harbingers of the PAC and eventually the PPP.

After relinquishing her citizenship in 1947 and declared persona non gratia in 1950 in the United States, JJ became a full fledge Guyanese at which point her struggles for a better Guyana were intensified.

JJ was decorated with many firsts; first to head the women progressive organisation, first woman to be parliamentarian, etc, and eventually was elected to the highest office in Guyana and thus became the first woman president.

All Guyanese should be extremely proud of this wonderful human being who gave up the so called “land of milk and honey” to join her husband, Cheddi, the “Guyanese Mahatma” to struggle against local and foreign reactionaries to liberate Guyana and restore democracy.

The Association of Concerned Guyanese Pa. proudly joins with all in Guyana and the entire Diaspora to remember this great champion of the poor and oppressed and the working class movement around the world.

JJ you will forever be in our hearts. We love you.
