Carnal knowledge case ruling on voir dire today

At Demerara Assizes…
JUSTICE James Bovell-Drakes, will at 10:00 hours today deliver his ruling on the alleged confession statement by 25-year old accused Kenroy Fraser who is facing a criminal charge of carnal knowledge, allegedly committed on an 11-year old girl from the West Bank of Demerara between 2006 and 2007.

The judge had been expected to deliver his ruling yesterday but decided to request the prosecution to recall certain witnesses to clear up gaps in the evidence that had been so far led in the voir dire (trial within a trial).

The case for the Prosecution, presented by State Counsel Miss Prithima Kissoon and Miss Dianna Boyan, is that Fraser, carnally knew an 11-year-old girl at West Bank Demerara. A third Prosecutor Miss Dionne Mc Cammon has gone on leave.

The smaller trial started after the accused, who is conducting his own defence pleaded not guilty to the indictment, and challenged the statement attributed to him.

Following the ruling in the voir dire the substantive trial will continue.
