This is fun: Masqueraders dance while Ana Ligia Mixco Sol de Saca, wife of El Salvador President Elias Antonio Saca Gonzalez, left, and Margarita Zavala de Calderon, wife of Mexico President Felipe Calderon pose for a photograph on their arrival at the Water Taxi Terminal in San Fernando on Saturday. The spouses had just arrived at the Water Taxi Terminal after their trip to the Wild Fowl Trust, Pointe-a-Pierre which offered them a retreat.
Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards, wife of President George Maxwell Richards, and a host of other officials were present at the trust.
Wearing fashionable outfits and high heels, only one person reportedly changed shoes for the tour. Several black-bellied whistling ducks were also released in their honour.
After the tour around the scenic location, the spouses made their way into San Fernando, where they were greeted by a cultural showcase. Boy scouts and cadets welcomed the spouses, who were busy watching the masqueraders and moko jumbies.
The spouses’ entourage included numerous police officers in cars and motor bikes, fire engines, ambulances and even a wrecker.
The entourage that made their way to the Water Taxi Terminal awed some children who lived nearby but left several persons disillusioned over the visit. To accommodate the spouses’ arrival into San Fernando, traffic along the Lady Hailes Avenue, except for a PTSC bus heading into Port-of-Spain and one car heading to Embacadere, was diverted.
Leslie Hanson who was waiting to get the bus to take here to her Embacadere home, said she got the opportunity to see the entourage pass. She said, “They did not let anyone stay on this stretch to see them pass, so I can say that I was lucky to see it.”
By 3 pm, even vehicles parked alongside the road to witness the arrival of the spouses to the Water Taxi Terminal were told to leave by police officers.
