Defendant offered owner stolen wood for sale

A MAN stole some lumber and tried to sell it to the owner, Magistrate Krishendat Persaud was told at New Amsterdam Court, in Berbice, Monday.

Police Assistant Superintendent Fazil Karimbaksh, prosecuting, made the allegation when 35-year-old Dave Kumar, of Angoy’s Avenue, made a Court appearance on a simple larceny charge.

The Prosecutor said, on April 4, Vandale Narine discovered that 125 feet board measurement (bm) of lumber, which she had under her Mount Sinai house, was missing.

After she made a report to the Police, the virtual complainant said the defendant went to her home in the same township and, on offering her wood for sale, took her to where she identified the merchandise as hers.

Kumar pleaded not guilty to the offence and was granted $40,000 bail until April 18.
