Neighbour granted bail on ducks theft charge

SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Ricardo Simon, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, was granted $50,000 bail Tuesday, when he appeared at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice, on a larceny charge.

Before Magistrate Chandra Sohan, he was charged with stealing six ducks, valued $70,000, belonging to his neighbour, Gregory Cort.

After the defendant pleaded not guilty, Police Lance Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said Cort had retired to bed but was awakened by the familiar quacking of the birds.

According to the Prosecutor, the virtual complainant peeped through a ventilation space on a wall of his house and saw the teenager putting the Muscovy and Peking breeds into a bag.

Figueira said Cort shouted at the thief but the latter escaped with his feathery booty.
The case will be called again on April 14.
