Court told Taxi passenger had G$22M in counterfeit euros

POLICE stopped a taxi and the search of a passenger’s bag yielded 1,498 bills in 500 euro denominations, all counterfeit, a Court heard yesterday.

Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, made the revelation when Craig David Jacobis appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle charged with possession of forged currency notes.

The Prosecutor said if the money found on March 13 was converted into local currency, it would amount to approximately G$22M.

After Jacobis, 32, of Lot 3763 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty, Griffith said, when Police went to the address given them by the defendant, they discovered no one was living there.
Jacobis was remanded to prison until April 6.
