Broadcaster on more fraud charges granted bail

RADIO broadcaster Stan Gouveia, 34, of Lot 416 Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, has more fraud cases pending and previously indicated that he would make restitution.

That was reported to Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, by Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, when the defendant appeared in Court yesterday, on two other charges of embezzlement and one of fraudulent conversion.

He pleaded not guilty to all, one of which said, between December 1 and 31 last, being employed as a clerk or servant by Commodi-ties Store Incorporated, an outlet of Fidelity Investments Incorporated, he fraudulently converted $10,000 to his own use and benefit.

Another charge said, on January 11, he embezzled $24,000 he received from Mark Collins for the same store and the third alleged that, between last October 1 and December 31, he was entrusted, by the store, with 101 Polar Ice beers, valued $404,000, but converted them to his own use and benefit.

After Defence Counsel Patrice Henry said Gouveia is well known, has strong ties to Guyana and poses no flight risk, the defendant was granted $160,000 bail until April 30.
