President, NJSAM, Inc. and its Humanitarian Mission

Mrs. JAGAN was a champion for women’s rights, democracy and fair play
I first saw Janet Jagan in the 1950s at a political meeting held at Leonora. At that meeting about a dozen females came to listen and see who this person was. She immediately went over and talked to the women and during her speech indicated that women should get more involved in their welfare and development.

As years went by I got to know this person as a champion for women rights, development, democracy and fair play. During the lean years of 1964 to 1992, when elections were stolen, ballot boxes destroyed and abuses thrown in her direction she stood firm. She combated these adversities by writing in the newspapers vigorously and with purpose, zeal and direction. In the end she succeeded and all those who had cheated at elections and in government had to vacate their corrupted ways.

She challenged the British colonial powers and Americans at elections and in the newspapers. And for that we are all grateful.
May her soul rest in peace.
