IMTIKAM Alli, 36, was yesterday sentenced to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty, before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, to simple larceny. Particulars of the offence said, last February 13, the prisoner stole 95 leather hand bands and booty worth a total of $144,000, property of Norman Vieira. Alli told the Court he is a street dweller and picked up the bag on the pavement, in Main Street, Georgetown and sold the contents to buy food. Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant is a craftsman who had his merchandise on display but discovered them missing as soon he turned his back. The Prosecutor said, on being arrested, the thief confessed to the crime.
