Mash was fantastic

MASHRAMANI celebrations were fantastic. I was happy to see Guyanese in their numbers lining the streets and being part of the celebrations.

While there were not huge floats like last year, it was indeed spectacular. The small floats were very colourful and eye catching. The masqueraders and the steel bands were breath- taking.

I was happy to see this local art form being featured prominently at this year’s event and for that I must commend the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. All the negative talk did not deter the revellers from gyrating to typical Guyanese calypso and soca beats which dominated the parade.

Mash has grown from being a cultural event to a more social one, where friends and family connect.

At yesterday’s event this was visible, friends and families were picnicking on the street corners, gyrating to the sounds of music.

The display of togetherness showcased the rich and diverse Guyanese culture and demonstrated that, in times like these, unity among Guyanese cannot be doubted.
