Lowe continues to excel at NSC’s Mash table tennis tourney

TRENACE Lowe continues to excel at the National Sports Commission’s Mashramani table tennis tournament being played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

On Sunday last, Lowe reached the last 16 of the women’s `B’ Class Open competition and together with Adeille Rosheuvel, secured a spot in the final of the women’s doubles competition. Among the other players to reach the final 16 are: Jody-Ann Blake, Nigel Bryan and Joel Alleyne.

Dwayne Gibson will face off with Orin Hinkenson, Hewley Griffith will come up against Xen Goliah, Oliver Jaundoo (Berbice) meets Anthony Niles and another Berbician Gibran Hussein will be in opposition to Marlon Washington (Linden) during this week, in an effort to qualify for the last 16.

In the women’s doubles competition, Lowe and Rosheuvel will come up against the pair of Natalie Cummings and Ambrose Thomas in the final, while Blake and Chelsea Edghill who were unsuccessful against Thomas and Cummings in the semi final have to settle for third place.

On Sunday, the `C’ Class open semi-finals, `B’ Class Open and the Senior Mixed Doubles will continue at the same venue, beginning at 10:00 h.

On Sunday last, the `C’ Class open reached the semi-final stage where Berbice’s Gibran Hussein will meet Dwayne Gibson, and Anthony Niles will come up against Blake. Hussein defeated Joel Alleyne at 17-15, 9-11, 11-7, 13-11to reach the semi-final, while Gibson defeated Oliver Jaundoo (Berbice) 11-7, 11-3, 13-11in two quarter-final matches.

Niles, on the other hand, defeated Hackshaw 11-8, 11-7, 11-9 to advance and Blake defeated Denzel Hopkinson 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9.

In the men’s doubles competition which was fixed for last evening, Christopher Franklin and Donald Duff were to meet Joel Alleyne and Darwin Walcott in the first semi-final, while today; Matthew Khan and Orin Hickerson will oppose Paul Meusa and Dillon Caesar in the second semi-final.

In the quarter-final, Franklin/Duff defeated Dwayne Gibson/Samuel Fraser 11-2, 2-11, 11-9, and 11-8; Alleyne/Walcott gained a walkover from Nigel Bryan/Denzel Hopkinson, Meusa/Caesar defeated Randy Pompey/Hewley Griffith 11-5, 10-12, 8-11, 11-3, 11-9 and Khan/Hickerson beat Bank of Guyana pair of Imran Khan/Carlyle Bowman 11-9, 11-9, 11-09.

The presentation of prizes will be on Wednesday March 4, starting from 16:00 h at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
