Is the time for the Guyana Music Festival now?

AN award ceremony of extremely high standards is non other than the just concluded broadcast of the “81st Academy Awards.” I don’t think that there is anyone who will disagree and the Producer of such entertainment broadcast indeed deserves the red carpet treat.

The bottom line is that for any show similar to the above mentioned to be pulled off, one has to be extremely creative and coming from this end of the globe, serious financial and corporate sponsorship along with a humorous host will indeed be needed. No question about that.

I am not so certain with the short time span, it will exactly be a promising period to embark on such a venture by reviving the “Guyana Music Festival” in April as reported in the GC, dated 2.22.09. I would want to hold out a little more and see what happens after the second quarter of the year. I also don’t think that some businesses are quite back on track from the Carifesta celebrations and it’s fair to allow them some breathing space.

However, if the organisers are totally convinced that the business community will come on board with its support and have the creative minds and man power to make such a show a success, I will say to proceed.

In advance to the potential adjudicators, whatever decisions are taken with commentaries towards participants, don’t entertain the thought of impersonating others especially world famous “Simon Cowell,” from the American Idol show.

As a reminder, I vividly remember a local talent show which was broadcast live sometime back where a present media personality displayed utter rubbish with his actions and commentaries towards participants by trying to impersonate the above mentioned judge.

In my opinion, that particular show was a total disaster and I honestly don’t believe that corporate Guyana would want to continue its support with such mediocre events.
