Mash Camps buzzing with activity

At the Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Mash Camp Channel 72, operated by Hits and Jams, costumes were being fitted yesterday.

The designer, Olympia Small-Sonaram, is making costumes for revellers of BK International and Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) Cellink Plus.
The main colours of the costumes are yellow and blue, with fringes of silver.

One of the proprietors of Hits and Jams, Dwight Ferguson, told the Guyana Chronicle that preparations are under way and all their costumes will be ready for the 2009 Mash Float Parade.

He added that they are putting on finishing touches and BK International will be officially launching their costumes today at 11:00am at the companyxs canteen.

And down at Trevor Rosexs Garnett Street camp, also in the city, welders were busily soldering steel in the yard for the large float costumes, while others were inside the building fitting the revellers costume.

The designer, Trevor Rose, was unavailable for an interview yesterday.

Meanwhile, John xSlingshotx Drepaul had officially launched his costumes for the February 23 Mashramani 2009 Float Parade at the Pegasus Hotel.

The designer, Chris Goodridge, finished the costumes with bright colours of blue, red and white.

Slingshot first entered the Mashramani Road March competition in 2004, and took away the first prize in the semi-costume Big Band Category.
