Caribbean Airlines aids GRFU

airlinesCARIBBEAN Airlines yesterday came to the aid of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) by presenting two discounted airline tickets for two of its players to participate in the GT&T Trial Camp in Barbados, which is set for February 26 to March 1.

Yesterday, Caribbean Airlines’ Sales Executive Kathy Shuffler-TenPow handed over the two tickets to Rugby West Indies captain, Guyana’s Claudius Butts, for himself and select player Albert LaRose also of Guyana, who have been selected to participate in the Trial Camp in Barbados.

The Camp is being held prior to the selection of the Rugby West Indies team for the International Rugby Board’s Hong Kong Sevens World Series tournament which is billed for March 27 to 29.

After making the presentation, Shuffler-TenPow said Caribbean Airlines is pleased to be associated with the GRFU and has noted the successes the Union has been achieving over the past few years.

She said her company would continue to support the sport and the GRFU.

Butts, in accepting the tickets in the absence of LaRose who could not have been present due to work commitments, thanked Caribbean Airlines on behalf of LaRose and himself, saying he is very happy that the airline has come forward and has always been assisting the development of the sport locally.

GRFU’s president Noel Adonis also thanked the airline for its support and said the GRFU is appreciative of the support they (GRFU) have been receiving over the years.

“Not only for Guyana’s rugby, but also for West Indies rugby; Caribbean Airlines has always been supportive whenever we have teams traveling. Claudius (Butts) and Albert (LaRose) will be departing Guyana for the Trial Camp and we wish them well.”

Adonis, a former national rugby player, is hoping that the West Indies team do well while in Hong Kong despite the West Indian players’ small stature, compared to those of their counterparts from the more developed world. “So I want them to do their best and any win will be beautiful for us.”
