Missing doctor, fiancée…
POLICE have confirmed that Dr Samsundar Lakeram and his fiancée, Radica Dwarka, had gone to Suriname on their own volition when they were reported missing.
A Police statement said the registered practitioner felt pressured by his family to take up the medical profession which is not of his choice.
Consequently, he became frustrated and, following discussions with his intended bride, they decided to go away.

According to the Police, the couple travelled to Georgetown last Saturday and left the vehicle on the seawall, then went by taxi to Berbice where they stayed the night at a Crabwood Creek, Corentyne hotel, before going to Suriname the following day.
However, while in Suriname, they became aware of the publicity being given to their disappearance and the various speculations, including that they may have been kidnapped or killed and made the decision to return home, the Tuesday night statement said, adding that they were being questioned by the Police.
Lakeram, 27, of Section ‘B’ Nonpariel and Dwarka, 25, of Block ‘CC’ Mon Repos, also on East Coast Demerara, had left his motor vehicle, PKK 5194, on the Georgetown Seawall Sunday, with the clothing he and she were wearing when they departed their respective homes Saturday.
But, because there was no trace of their whereabouts, a missing persons report was made and searches conducted for them.
Both the Lakeram and Dwarka families refused to speak to the Guyana Chronicle yesterday but reiterated that they were grateful for the safe and well return of their loved ones. (Michel Outridge)
