18-year-old refused bail for robbery under arms

AN 18-year-old man of Lot 416 Laing Avenue, Georgetown, was yesterday refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, for robbery under arms.

Kevin Denhart pleaded not guilty to the charge that said on September 15 at High Street, Kingston, Georgetown, being armed with a knife he robbed Ryan Harry of $15,000 in cash.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that on the day in question around 04:00 hrs, the virtual complainant (VC) was walking north along High Street when the defendant in the company of another person approached him, placed the knife to his neck and demanded money. At the time the VC had $15000 which they took and made good escape their escape. The matter was reported at the Brickdam Police Station and acting on information, the police went to Longden Street where the defendant was pointed out and arrested.
The prosecutor successfully opposed bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence.
Grant also informed the court that the defendant may be a suspect in other matters.
The unrepresented man was remanded to prison and the case will be called again on September 30.
